Staying the Course
Coffee prices globally have gone up, when looking at the global commodity market price data (adjusted for inflation) you can see they are at their highest point since the last spike in 2011. From the start of 2017 until the start of 2021 the C market price has been relatively stable, staying between $0.90 and $1.20 per lb over that time. While we don’t buy commodity coffee, any change to the floor price will of course raise prices across the board.

We wanted to provide the ultimate stocking filler for the Cat loving home brewer this Claudemas. Yet again we have teamed up with Monsieur Claude and his favorite artist Martin Kingdom to bring you Claude Orignal Beans.
The coffee industry is often very serious and that can be intimidating to some customers, Claude is an opportunity to break down barriers by offering something that is light hearted and cheerful, and really not so serious and as a result, we hope, it’s a very accessible product and something people will always be excited to see.
Together Marysabel Caballero and her husband Moises Herrera run Caballero, which consists of about 150 hectares of coffee farms and a dry mill called Xinacla. Marysabel Caballero, who inherited the farms from her parents is largely responsible for overseeing and managing the farms and the people who work on them and Moises, with his background in engineering is responsible for running the mill and innovating processes therein.
We’ve worked with Marysabel and Moises for five years, we’ve pretty much always had a coffee from them on our list and about three years ago we started using lots from their farms as one of our key Unit Fourteen coffees.
We are looking for a production assistant to join our roastery team.
Packing and dispatch will be the majority of your working day all while keeping the roastery organised and clean and making sure all our orders are correct and leaving the roastery on time. You will be asked to help the roasting team with a number of tasks from cuppings to cleaning the roaster to moving green coffee around the roastery. We roast and ship five days a week with a high number of wholesale and webstore orders leaving every day.
This role is a fantastic introduction to roastery life and there is always the possibility of progression towards roasting and having a more coffee focused role within Round Hill.
We first discovered his coffee during the Tarqui Cup in 2018, a condition of the cup is that it’s judged completely blind, so it wasn’t until after the competition we found out he’d produced it. It was the second place coffee that year and one of our favourite coffees on the table, it was really delicious and juicy. We bid on and committed to buying the coffee based purely on the cup quality. Following the competition the organisers; Fairfield Trading and Nordic Approach host a big party in the local community centre where there is a big outdoor oven and a kitchen, so that farmers, exporters and visiting roasters can eat, drink a few beers, meet and talk.
